In the green of the Alghero countryside in Sa Segada – a mere 10 minutes from the beach – is located the guest farm La Genziana, an oasis of quiet and tranquillity where you can spend your vacation in harmony with nature, in the silence of the Mediterranean scrub brush.

The guest farm La Genziana has 17 hectares of land, mostly used for the organic harvesting of forage and for the raising of livestock. Part of the garden has been set aside for vegetables and aromatic herbs for seasonal recipes using local products and farm crops.

You can spend a weekend during various holidays and any time that you would like to give yourself a well-deserved rest from the stress of daily life. The lawn encircling the building is an ideal place for your kids to play in the open air or for you to relax in the quiet nature of the countryside.

In La Genziana you are free to stay either in one of the apartments, which were built during the remodel of an old farmhouse, or in recently-built rooms. There are rooms with private baths for the disabled, as well.

There are two types of accommodation: apartment rentals or room rentals. They are available all year round.

The two apartments that were retro-fitted from an old farmhouse (from which they retain the large fireplace and thick walls) are equipped with kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, entryway, baths, TV, as well independent air conditioning and heating.

The rooms are four double rooms, one of which is fully equipped for the disabled, all have private bath, TV, independent air conditioning/heating. The style is a modern spin on traditional Sardinian décor, comfortable, functional and of high quality, tailor-fit for each unit, in harmony with their surroundings.

All of the rooms come with enough towels and linen for all of the guests.
Upon request, the apartments are furnished with kitchen and bath towels and linen.

 

The guest farm La Genziana offers  breakfast or half-board.
In the morning after a nice sleep, the Genziana guests are served an abundant and varied breakfast of milk, coffe, tea, jam, butter, honey, fruit juice and home-made sweets. All organic and fresh!

The real jewel in the crown of breakfast comes from ancient country tradition: fresh sheep’s milk. Delicate, wholesome and rich in organic ingredients that make it unique and particularly appreciated, its flavours vary according to season (tones of hay during the winter, fragrance of fresh grass in the spring). “Sa frue” (the curd from whole sheep’s milk) is obtained and then eaten in slices accompanied by “pane carasau” (Sardinian flat bread). Sheep’s ricotta, as well, but also “su gihoddu”, the typical Sardinian yoghurt of ancient origins, which is held by popular wisdom and experience to be very good for one’s health. Eaten with Sardinian honey it is a veritable delight for the palate.

Guests opting for half-board are served dinner after sunset in the same eating area: typical Sardinian dishes accompanied by local Alghero wines. Beginning with an appetizer of sausages, smoked ham, cheese, vegetables and oil, you’ll go on to the first courses, which include home-produced pastas cooked according to traditional recipes: ricotta ravioli or cheese sauce (the ricotta and cheese are made here), malloreddos (typical Sardinian gnocchi) with sheep or sausage sauce, tagliatelle with vegetables, or with pane frattau, a magnificently frugal dish consisting of Sardinian flat bread, tomato sauce, pecorino cheese and egg.

The second course consists of traditional lamb with wild fennel or roast suckling pig, or roasted lamb with myrtle berry aromatic herbs, sheep and sauce, or the typical sheep-herder’s dish, sheep with potatoes and onions, accompanied by side dishes of season-fresh vegetables. The meal ends with sweets from the Barbagia region of Sardinia, country pies and sas sevadas, a round pastry with pecorino cheese filling (flavoured with grated lemon and orange rind), closed with durum wheat crust. All 100% made from scratch!.
To finish off your meal, you’ll have our famous Gentiana-flavoured digestive.
